Chickenpox is a common childhood illness. But what steps should you take to look after someone who catches it? In this video Dr Rishi Duggal explains what to do if you or your children get chickenpox, and when to get urgent medical advice.

Accidents

As a precaution, all of our staff are qualified paediatric first aiders.  A first aid kit is kept stocked and on the premises at all times.  Accident details are recorded in our Accident Record book which you will be shown and asked to sign at collection.  This is to acknowledge that your child's injury/accident has been reported to you.  For more serious accidents/injuries, it may be necessary for you to collect your child and seek further medical advice, e.g. from your GP.  Staff will notify you immediately if this is the case.  In emergencies, staff will contact 999 as well as parents/carers.

Medications

All long-term medication needs to be provided/kept in a clear, sealed container.  We are only able to give medications that have been prescribed and provided that parents/carers have completed permissions form.  This will be kept in a folder for quick reference by pre-school staff. Each dose of medication given to your child will be recorded on a register (including date/time given) by the member of staff who administered it.  We also carry an emergency inhaler and Piriton syrup for adverse/allergic reactions.  You will be required to give permission for us to use these (in the event of an emergency only) when your child starts pre-school.
